  1. 1889-1961. British educationalist. He
  2. inspired and oversaw the introduction of the
  3. `village college' and community school
  4. education, which he saw as regenerating rural
  5. life. His ideas were also adopted in urban
  6. areas. Morris emphasised the value of
  7. providing single-site centres of continuing
  8. education and leisure activity for both
  9. adults and children alike. He persuaded
  10. Walter Gropius, together with Maxwell Fry, to
  11. design the Village College at Impington, near
  12. Cambridge, 1939. He was chief education
  13. officer for Cambridgeshire 1922-54.
